ITIL and ISO 20.000

The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) defines the organizational structure and skill requirements of an information technology organization and a set of standard operational management procedures and practices to allow the organization to manage an IT operation and associated infrastructure. The operational procedures and practices are supplier independent and apply to all aspects within the IT Infrastructure.

For corporate/organizational certification, the relevant emerging standard is ISO 20000. This is quickly emerging to be a central driver for ITSM, and is conceptually the framework within which ITIL itself operates. The emergence of ISO20000 is a significant development in the service management sphere. Not only does it offer the benefits of international standardization and benchmarking, but of formal certification.
